DNA extraction

Over the years, our method for DNA extraction has been optimised to ensure high quality and to produce a large amount of DNA. The samples can either be seeds or leaf material. The DNA can either be analysed at ScanBi Diagnostics or sent to the customer for their own use. Upon request, remaining DNA can always be sent to the customer within one (1) year of receipt of the samples.

Seeds

Two sub-samples of approx. 2 g each are used for the DNA extraction.
The two sub-samples are extracted separately. The homogenisation control is extracted in parallel with the samples.

Leaves

Pooled leaves: Up to 100 pooled leaves (pieces of 6-8 mm in diameter) are homogenised and followed by two (2) extractions of DNA from each pool.

Single leaves: Each leaflet (6-8 mm in diameter) is separately extracted for DNA. A single DNA extraction is performed per leaflet.
