Information on quantification of GMO

Quantification of the amount of a GM event or target can be performed directly on the sample. This can be relevant for many soybean products and sometimes for maize products too, depending on the origin of the samples. However more often it is performed on samples that have tested positive for a GM target in the GMO screening analyses and perhaps where the GM event has even been identified. Similarly to the identification of GM events, the analyses for quantification of GMO are either developed in-house, based on publicly available validated methods, or under licence from different technology providers.

Quantification of the amount of a GM event or target in a sample includes three Real Time PCR tests on each of the two DNA extracts (total of 6 replicates). The results are correlated to a standard curve. It is possible to quantify the amount of GMO down to 0.05%.
