Hybrid components Rf + CMS (Ogura)

[ BB900]

Hybrid component test (Ogura). Determine Rf + CMS

Overall description of tests available for Ogura hybrid system:

Assuring successful hybrid breeding and production
Analysis of Ogura canola hybrid system components

Plant breeders use the Ogura hybrid system to improve yield, resistance and vigour in canola. Purity of the components in the hybrid system is required in order to obtain the desired heterosis effects and high quality.
There are two main types of contamination risks in the Ogura hybrid system – pollen contamination and physical admixture. Detecting CMS (cytoplasmic male sterility) and Rf (restorer gene) in various steps of hybrid breeding and production provides quality control addressing both these risk factors.
ScanBi diagnostics offers tests for assuring:

• Mother line (A-line) uniformity for CMS presence and Rf gene absence
• Maintainer line (B line) uniformity for Rf gene absence and CMS absence
• Restorer line (R line) uniformity for homozygous Rf gene presence and CMS presence
• Hybrid uniformity for CMS presence and Rf gene presence and heterozygosity.

ScanBi Diagnostics performs these analyses using high throughput Real-Time PCR technology at low cost and with a short turnaround time.

The single seeds or leaves are analyzed for both CMS and Rf. Results can be reported as: detected/not detected; or as percentage of CMS and Rf in a group of individuals. The results on each individual seed or plant are also available. Bulk samples of seeds or leaves are analyzed for line uniformity for the Rf gene and reported as detected/not detected or quantified.

To lower costs, Ogura system analysis can be combined with other analyses, such as testing for GMO or pathogens. After analysis, we can return the DNA from your material to you.

ScanBi Diagnostics can provide you with sampling instructions and containers for your material.
